It is well known when the natural period of tank is same to speed response value by an earthquake that the sloshing height of the floating roof is remarkably amplified. Although it is important to clarify the behavior of the floating roof induced the sloshing for preventing tank damage, the mechanism of behavior of the floating roof has not been fully analyzed at present. Therefore a finite element method (FEM) is carried out based on the useful information such as actual seismic wave, sloshing wave height, damage situation of tank, etc. Then the cause of the failure is well understood by comparing the simulation result and actual failure situation.
