Theoretical analysis of a gyroscopic system is made with a view to determine its feasibility as a synchronous vibration absorber. It is shown that antiresonance in two directions orthogonal to each other can be produced simultaneously. Thus, the total energy at antiresonance is due entirely to the angular oscillations of the gyro. Also at the null frequencies, the inertial forces induced by gyroscopic action being out of phase with the input forcing function, the latter is reacted by the former resulting in antiresonance. As the null frequencies are directly related to the angular speed of the gyro, it is possible to obtain linear synchronization so that the device can effectively be used as a synchronous vibration absorber.
