This paper describes a method for determining the stresses and displacements in structures consisting of a flat plate with one or two nozzles attached normal to the plane of the plate. The analysis procedure can be viewed as the solution of three interdependent subproblems: (a) the stress analysis of the nozzle, (b) the plane-stress analysis of the plate membrane problem, and (c) the analysis of the transverse bending deformation in the plate. The solutions of these three problems are interrelated in the total solution through continuity and equilibrium conditions at the nozzle-plate interface. The paper describes the numerical techniques employed, and discusses some typical results obtained.
