Stroke is a leading cause of hemiparesis usually exhibiting asymmetrical movement pattern , which is the main goal of neurorehabilitation. Gait training and cycling exercise are common physical therapy treatments that help stroke patients to recover the ability of walking. Electrical stimulation (ES)-assisted cycling has been identified as training protocol during bedridden in acute stage or before ambulation training in stroke patients . However, the training paradigms of ES-assisted cycling for stroke patients in varied stages have not yet come into clinical acceptance in scientific base which might be due to difficulties in time-course assessment of stroke recovery. Also, many studies intended to have stimulation induce muscle contraction but suitable intensity is difficult to define .
