Professor Geoffrey Hewitt died on the Jan. 18, 2019, after a life as husband, father, and a giant of the field of multiphase flow and heat transfer. He was a passionate and dedicated teacher and researcher and leaves an incredible legacy to the profession.

Born on the Jan. 3, 1934, the son of an engineer, Professor Hewitt graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1954. He went on to complete his Ph.D., again at UMIST, in 1957, and then joined the UK Atomic Energy Authority at Harwell in Oxfordshire during a period of rapid development in nuclear technology. He was subsequently appointed as Head of the UKAEA Chemical Engineering Division and later founded the Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Service (HTFS).
